Welcome to C W Grips

Everything at Designs by Carl is hand crafted without automation and honed to perfection. My background extends 40 years and includes furniture, gun stocks, woodcarving and art. Unfortunately, I do not have photographs of my earlier work, but have included a few recent photos for viewing. Established on credibility and word of mouth, advertisement savings are passed directly to my customers who often request additional orders. Originally, from Tennessee, I now call Alabama "Home Sweet Home". My wife and I fell in love with the Gulf Coast years ago and decided that someday we would retire there. We bought a place in Daphne Alabama in 2013. I built my workshop shortly after and continue to work from it today. I am dedicated to building the finest custom grips on the market today. I specialize in grips for the 1911 large frame pistol. I also do inlay work and carving as well as personalizing, such as initials or logos, and medallions. Following contact, woods are discussed and a photograph is submitted for your approval. Generally, after a type of wood has been picked the grips will take about two weeks depending on the complexity of the design specifications, and the availability of the wood of choice. With a shop drawing or photo approved, the project begins. Purchasing on line is simple and easy using the contact page and sending a message or give me a call. You also have the option of picking from the wood I have in stock, or send me your wood and I will make the grips. Contact me for further information, or a chat about guns or wood. I can talk for hours on either subject, but I promise not to take that much time unless you wish.

This one took a long time on the phone and drawing to get what the man had in his mind. We finally go it by email, drawings and phone calls. You see when I am contacted I start a drawing on the wood you choose in order to show you what your product will look like. l am a graphic artist also. So I can draw the ideas.
